The Date is Set!

Saturday, January 1, 2011. 1/1/11! We're getting married on New Years Day! Is anyone else excited? I have no idea what to do next except everything. I'm so stupid happy! I can't wait.

I've had the wheels turning in my head and we've already had some ideas of what we want to do. Small, family and close friends only. The fact that all of my family will have to traverse great distances will cut down on attendance I'm sure but I really hope as much of my family as possible will come. The budget is microscopic as far as weddings go but it will be perfect, I just know it.

What do you think of pomanders (obviously indoors, maybe on the pews/chairs)? Any color ideas? Themes?

Testing, testing... 1, 2... 3?

This is only a test. There has been an issue come up where my published posts are linking back to my OLD blog address instead of the new one. So if someone could click this and let me know what happens? That would be super.

Also, Michael and Joshua's hats are crocheted. They just need some finishing touches, like a Tank applique... Then I can move on to Alexandra's Princess hat.

Princess beanie? Gonna be a challenge.

Finally settled in. (amost)

So the big move to CA is done. It actually happened several months ago as reflected in the lack of blog posts. I finally feel like I'm getting settled but I can't seem to fit my house full of stuff into our new 1 bedroom apartment. I have a rather unsightly stack of boxes in my living room.
Also, my fiber addiction is a little difficult to arrange. I'm sort of spilling over.

On the bright side, I've found a fantastic new crochet buddy. My future sister-in-law. She's worse than me, or at least a little further down the path of madness. I'm so jealous of her stash... She could probably make sweaters for the entire Senate with out going to the store (or knitpicks) even once! However, she has been very sweet and helpful, and she invites us over for dinner pretty often so I try not to mention to her husband how much yarn she REALLY has.

I've become obsessed with making cotton washcloths lately. My newest favorite is, well it's adorable. To see more pictures of it go to my Etsy Shop.

Extra Special Super Exciting!!!!!!!!

Now that everyone who I had to tell in person knows, and it's all over my facebook...

Matt and I are officially engaged!

Way cool, huh?

Gabu Babu

Yay! Tanner's toy is done. It turned out so cute! Well I think so anyhow. I was a little concered at first about how the color was changing in the first few rows but once the rows lengthened out it looked pretty good. It took me a few tries to get the antenae the way I wanted them. In the end I made one right handed and the other left handed (I won't tell you how long that took) so that they would mirror each other. If any of my genious friends has a better idea on how to do that I would LOVE to hear it.

Ooo and as a little tid-bit of useless information: Babu (bah-boo) is Napali for "baby boy." I have a friend whose cat is named Babu. Just a coincidence when I was making up a silly nonsense name for my post I remember after I typed it. Now that you're curious, Moiya (MOY-uh) is the word for "baby girl."

In other news

I just started a new project tonight for my little Tumpkin, Tanner. He's my youngest nephew. (He'll be 1 year old in May!) I'm about half way done, just something simple for him to chew on. I'm using Lily Sugar & Cream Cotton Yarn called Summer Splash and a size D hook. I'm stitching it rediculously tight so hopefully he won't get any fuzz in his cute little mouth. The pink line is my stitch marker so I can count my rows and stiches. I find it easier to not have to move it and it doesn't get in the way!

The pattern is The Gabu by Tamie Snow, the owner of ROXYCRAFT.com. She also has an awsome book out (Tiny Yarn Animals: Amigurumi Friends to Make and Enjoy ) with lots of adorable patterns. I can't wait to try them all!

There's no place like home...

I just got home Tuesday from a fantastic trip to Fresno, CA to visit my boyfriend and to meet his family. I had so much fun! His mom is about the sweetest person I've ever met! Everyone was super friendly and I know I haven't laughed that hard in months. We got some oranges right off the tree. (I know, you sunny life people don't get it but Kansas Girls get excited about that.) He got me a super special present but I'll write more about that later.

My very 1st Amigurumi!

I finished my first amigurumi today! I'm so excited. I'm not very experienced at crochet so it's not perfect by any means, but he's cute and he makes me happy. I am nerdy enough that I decided I could change the pattern just a little. I used a Lion Brand Yarn pattern and it was very easy. My step-mom, Thalia, who I will refer to as Mom T, was very helpful in getting me started. Also I found this really great video tutorial about crochet and Amigurumi at Hook & Needles. Instead of going all the way around the bottom half in white, I decided to do a color change in the front on every row. This may not have been the best way for me to go about this so if you have a better way or any advice, please, please, please, let me know. I've found little Guster a good home, my honey Matt has already adopted him. I can't wait to show you my next project and I'd love to see yours, so drop me a link!
